The Green Bay Packers will be severely undermanned in the secondary when they face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night. According to The Athletic, cornerback Eric Stokes will miss the game due to a hamstring issue. The Packers are already missing cornerback Jaire Alexander due to a suspension.
Stokes has been hampered by injuries for the majority of the season. Despite this, the cornerback has worked his way into the Packers’ starting lineup in recent weeks. He has six tackles for Green Bay this season, including five in a Christmas Eve victory over the Carolina Panthers.
Stokes has high expectations from the Packers. The team chose him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Every season he’s been in the league, his production has dropped. He played in 9 games last year and only three this season after appearing in 16 games his rookie season.
Stokes has 87 tackles in his NFL career, including 69 solo stops. In addition, he has one interception and 14 passes defensed. He went to Georgia for collegiate football. Stokes was a first-team All-SEC pick in college in 2020. In 2019, he was named to the second team.
Jaire Alexander, the Packers’ starting cornerback, is also out for Sunday’s game. Alexander is serving a one-game suspension from the club for disruptive behavior. With Stokes and Alexander sidelined, the Packers will most likely turn to Carrington Valentine and Keisean Nixon for playing time.
Green Bay and Minnesota are both 7-8 heading into Sunday’s matchup, which will have significant significance in the NFC North division. The Packers and Vikings face battle at 8:20 a.m. ET on Sunday.
