GOOD NEWS: Cleveland Browns Suddenly Sign A New QB After Comfirming A Playoff Berth

Following their big win over the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football, the Cleveland Browns have officially clinched a spot in the postseason. Quarterback Joe Flacco has been playing well and has the Browns offense rolling just as the regular season comes to a close. However, just one day after the big win, the team added a veteran quarterback to the active roster.

To back up Flacco, Cleveland has signed veteran quarterback Jeff Driskel to the active roster. The 30-year-old was a member of the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad this season before joining the Browns’ active roster. This season, Cleveland has suffered several significant injuries, including season-ending injuries to quarterbacks Deshaun Watson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. This move was most likely made in case the 38-year-old Flacco suffered an injury during the team’s playoff run.
Driskel has played for teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, and Houston Texans. He hasn’t been on an active roster since the Texans in 2022, when he had 108 passing yards and a touchdown in seven games. Since joining the league in 2018, the veteran has accumulated 2,228 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Browns Sign QB Jeff Driskel Ahead of Season Finale
While Flacco has established himself as the starting quarterback in Cleveland, the team appears to be playing it safe in case he suffers a devastating injury. Driskel has been a reliable backup throughout his career and could fit in nicely with the Browns’ offense. With Flacco, the team is performing at a new level, and adding another veteran as a backup could be the team’s saving grace if something bad happens.

Cleveland is now 11-5 and second in the AFC North, which is fiercely competitive. With a playoff spot already secured, the Browns still have a chance to steal the division title from the Baltimore Ravens if they lose their final two regular-season games. Will Joe Flacco continue to show that he is still capable of playing at an elite level, or will the Cleveland offense come to a halt in the postseason?
