INJURY UPDATE: Chicago head coach reveals a key QB of Bears has a shocking injury and remains in concussion protocol and has been ruled out of Sunday’s home game against the Falcons

Darnell Mooney, a Bears receiver, is still in concussion protocol and has been ruled out of Sunday’s home game against the Falcons.

After being limited in practice on Friday, tight end Cole Kmet (knee) and center (knee) are both listed as questionable on the injury report.

Kmet was hurt late in the first half of the Cardinals’ win last Sunday when he took a direct hit on his knee after a 29-yard reception. He was taken out at halftime after catching four passes for 107 yards, a career high.
Kmet has not missed a game since being drafted in the second round of the 2020 draft by the Bears out of Notre Dame, appearing in all 65 games with 58 starts.

“That’s the one personal thing that means the most to me,” Kmet went on to say. “When Jimmy (Graham) was here, he stressed that availability, dependability, and all of that type of stuff are the most important things that these organizations really look at.” My job is to be as prepared for the game as possible. I’ve been doing it for a long time since I joined the league.”

Kmet admitted that there is a fine line between extending his consecutive game streak and being prudent about his injury.

“I’m not going to be dumb about it,” he told me. “But if I feel like going, I’m going.” When you’re out there, you have to let it all hang out. Most guys are playing at 80, 70% at this time of year. The question is, ‘Can he play at 100% at 80?’ This is the league. That’s what you’re aiming for by Sunday.”

Coach Matt Eberflus said of Kmet’s availability on Sunday, “Everything looks pretty good there, so it’s positive.” Patrick, according to Eberflus, “also looks very good for that.”

Three Bears who have been out with injuries appear to be ready to return on Sunday: Left guard Teven Jenkins (concussion), receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (pectoral), and linebacker Noah Sewell (knee) all participated fully in practice this week and were not labeled as injured.
