JUST IN: MLB Insider Report Yankees Are advancing In Trade Talk For Free-Agent Starting Pitcher

Will the New York Yankees acquire a top pitcher in addition to the outfielders Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo that they recently acquired via trade? The New York Post’s MLB insider Jon Heyman claims that the Yankees are open to reuniting with free-agent starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery.

Furthermore, Heyman stated that Blake Snell, the current National League Cy Young champion, may or may not be of interest to New York at this time.

This is my family", Jordan Montgomery in shock after the Yankees traded him to St. Louis | Marca

Montgomery is a fascinating free agent at thirty-one. Before being dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2022, the large left-hander started his career in New York. Then, in the midst of a losing season in 2023, the Cardinals traded Montgomery to the Texas Rangers, who went on to win the World Series.

Montgomery is currently eligible for MLB free agency, and it would be wise for him to go back to New York.

The rationale for Jordan Montgomery and the Yankees’ reunion
Being in New York is too much for a lot of the athletes. There is a lot of strain in this sizable market. Still, Montgomery’s success with the Yankees is probably reason enough for New York to be intrigued.

In addition, the Yankees need to bolster their rotation with one or two more pitchers. Although he is New York’s ace and possibly the best pitcher in the game, Gerrit Cole is not without doubt.

Yankees' Jordan Montgomery not expected to miss next start

The Yankees are placing a lot of faith in Carlos Rodon to recover from his injury-plagued rookie season in New York. Beyond those three pitchers, Nestor Cortes is another pitcher who could make a comeback, but there are a lot of unknowns.

Montgomery’s signing would add depth and steadiness. In the starting rotation, he would be ideal as the third or fourth pitcher. If injuries don’t ruin the Yankees’ rotation once more, Montgomery’s arrival would give them one of the best pitching staffs in baseball.

The Yankees are intrigued, per Heyman, as previously noted. Is Montgomery willing to come back, and if so, will there be a deal that all parties can agree upon?
