BREAKING NEWS: The thought around Arthur Smith’s job security has ping-ponged back and forth and NFL exec suggest Falcons as good fit for Justin Fields

Since a rumor claimed Arthur Smith would return to coaching the Falcons in 2024 unless something went wrong in the late season, opinions regarding his job security have fluctuated.

Several people believed he had lost his job after the utter humiliation of a defeat to the 1–12 Panthers. Then, in what may have been the most stunning victory of the season, the Falcons crushed the Colts, leading some to believe he had saved his job, at least according to a report.

However, in terms of the playoffs, that pointless victory was fleeting. The Bears and Justin Fields embarrassed the visiting Falcons in Chicago. The season of 2023 has been marked by both good and unpleasant stories.

I’ve always believed that Arthur Smith will return in 2024 due to Atlanta’s poor QB performance. Additionally, it seems like the locker room has always supported him, but that may no longer be the case.

It appears that Smith may lose the locker room, as Cordarrelle Patterson expresses his dissatisfaction with his position. It’s actually made Arthur Blank’s decision to fire his head coach this offseason more likely. The Falcons will be looking for a quarterback, regardless of the coach of this football team.

The club has a few options, and a lot of them, in my opinion, depend on the coach of the group. Rather than engaging in a hypothetical scenario, I will simply outline a few possibilities.

The three best prospects that might be selected in the draft are Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels. Box Nix, J.J. McCarthy, and Michael Peniz can also be selected late in the first round. Three 35-year-old players are available in free agency: Russell Wilson, Ryan Tannehill, and Kirk Cousins.

There’s also the trade market. According to one NFL executive, Justin Fields is likely to be the most desirable target, and if Arthur Smith is already in the building, the fit is perfect on paper.
