A talented running back is set to clear waivers this week, just in time for the Green Bay Packers to make a move before their crucial Week 18 game against the Chicago Bears. If the Packers defeat the Bears on Sunday, they will secure a wild-card berth.
Several offensive weapons for the Packers have been injured late in the season. After placing Samori Toure on injured reserve, they signed Bo Melton to the 53-man roster on Monday. Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Dontayvion Wicks are all out for Week 18.
The Packers’ main issue, however, is in the backfield.
In Week 17, the Packers put three running backs on the injury report: Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, and Emanuel Wilson. Jones has missed numerous games due to injuries this season. Dillon was injured with a stinger against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
In Week 18, a Pro Bowl running back became available.
For the playoffs, the Packers should attempt to add depth at running back, and a four-time Pro Bowler has emerged as a possible possibility. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Jets have agreed to part ways with Dalvin Cook.
Cook might be signed by the Green Bay Packers.
Cook wants to play for a team that will give him carries in the playoffs. With Cook on the squad, the Packers would be a far more competitive club.
If the Packers are to sign Cook, they will need him to be patient this week. Cook is unlikely to sign with the Packers this week because they are not guaranteed a postseason spot.
Cook might be convinced to join his former adversary for a postseason push in Green Bay if he isn’t interested in other running-back-needy teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens.
What would Aaron Rodgers think of that?
