Preston’s ambitions were initially reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Shazz Preston, a wide receiver for Alabama, has accessed the transfer site. The second-year player leaves UA for the first time since the team’s defeat by Michigan in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl.
Preston had 10 appearances for the Crimson Tide, largely as a wide receiver and mostly on special teams. Since the Tide made the CFP, Alabama athletes have until this Saturday, January 6, to access the portal.
After the game in the locker room, Dallas Turner excitedly informed me that the deadline to declare for the NFL Draft is January 15.
Preston was a top-100 talent by 247Sports Composite and a four-star recruit out of St. James (Louisiana) High. Shawn Preston Jr., his brother, recently finished his sixth season at Mississippi State. When the brothers played against each other earlier this year, the Preston family got together in Starkville, Mississippi.
After the transfer window began in December, Preston is the fifth athlete from Alabama to do so, following defensive lineman Isaiah Hastings, who is uncommitted, Tyler Buchner (Notre Dame lacrosse), Anquin Barnes (Colorado), and Ja’Corey Brooks (Louisville).
Three commits have been attracted to UA, two of whom were while in California: cornerback Domani Jackson of USC and players Naquil Betrand and LT Overton of Texas A&M. There ought to be more Alabama players considering their futures abroad, given the university’s stellar recruiting class and the possibility of more transfers.
