In preparation for a postseason run that they hope would last through the entire month of January and end in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas come February, the Cleveland Browns are strengthening their offensive line.
According to the Browns’ official X account, Cleveland added offensive guard Rodger Saffold to its practice squad on Wednesday, January 3.
Saffold was selected to the Pro Bowl twice in the previous two seasons, once as a lineman for the Buffalo Bills in 2021 and again as a member of the Tennessee Titans in 2021. In 2017, he was also a Los Angeles Rams second-team All-Pro.
Despite his recent success in the NFL, 35-year-old Saffold has not played a snap this season. However, he was a member of the New York Jets practice squad for several months prior to his release and subsequent acquisition by the Browns on Wednesday.
Before the 2023 season, the offensive guard spent 13 years in the league, appearing in 176 games with 173 starts. Saffold is qualified to play in Sunday’s season finale between the Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals. Cleveland doesn’t need to win because they have already secured the best wildcard spot (No. 5 seed) in the AFC Playoffs, which get underway on January 13.
