DEAL CLOSED: Celtics are reportedly on the verge signing prolific Atlanta Hawk Shooting Guard

The Boston Celtics, as they currently stand, are the best team in the NBA. In fact, the Celtics are the favorite to win the 2024 NBA title, according to the most recent FanDuel betting odds. Their odds of winning the championship are at +320, which is better than the Denver Nuggets’. Even a stacked club has room for growth, and with a little more than a month until the trade deadline, the C’s may have another move in the works.

The Celtics are the favorite to land sweet-shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic from the Atlanta Hawks, according to the latest odds from BetOnline’s special props. Their chances of success are currently +200.
The Milwaukee Bucks (+400), Denver Nuggets (+500), Los Angeles Clippers (+500), and Sacramento Kings (+700) round out the top five possible Bogdanovic trade suitors.

The Celtics could need more battle-tested depth beyond their starting six. Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser are fine role players, but the Celtics may be hesitant to give them postseason minutes. Meanwhile, Bogdan Bogdanovic is a challenging shot maker, a useful backup ballhandler who opposition teams must remember every time he’s on the court because of his great deep shooting ability.

Unfortunately, the Celtics will be unable to come up with the necessary compensation to acquire Bogdanovic from the Hawks. Bogdanovic is getting $18.7 million this season; the Celtics will have to include one of their core six players in order to complete the deal. Given how well they’ve played this season, there’s no reason for them to upset the apple cart too much.

Furthermore, the Hawks are unlikely to trade Bogdanovic while attempting to build a strong core around Trae Young. With all of the trade rumors circulating about Dejounte Murray and the Hawks’ stated desire to acquire a star power forward, the 31-year-old sharpshooter is expected to be elevated to the starting lineup if Murray departs.

Overall, betting on Bogdanovic’s possible trade to the Celtics is a bad idea for the reasons stated above.
