Albany transfer quarterback Reese Poffenbarger is a new prospect for the Miami Hurricanes.
Since Thursday evening, there has been speculation that Miami and the top FCS quarterback are interested in working together.
On my Locked On Canes podcast, we went into great detail on Poffenbarger.
Poffenbarger has thrown 60 touchdown passes and 17 interceptions in two seasons as the Great Danes’ starter. In 2023, he passed for 3,614 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also had six running touchdowns.
Poffenbarger’s deep throws are aggressive, and he specializes at delivering accurate passes on the run. With his athleticism, he can extend plays and has strong pocket instincts. You can see why he believes he is ready to make the leap to the Power Five.
Poffenbarger still has two years of eligibility left.
If Miami does bring him in, he will most likely give depth and competitiveness. It’s difficult to imagine an FCS transfer being given a starting spot. In practice, Jacurri Brown and Emory Williams would also compete for the QB1 position.
Miami is also said to be interested in Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter. He is the highest-ranked unsigned quarterback. In 2023, Salter threw for nearly 2,800 yards and added 1,089 running yards and 12 rushing touchdowns to his 32 throwing touchdowns. Auburn and Oklahoma are thought to be in the running to sign Salter. He is still eligible for two years.
Don’t underestimate Taulia Tagovaloa. The Miami Dolphins star’s younger brother has left Maryland and is allegedly interested in playing closer to Tua.
Taulia is requesting an additional year of eligibility from the NCAA and is awaiting a decision on his waiver request. If and when his waiver is granted, the hoopla surrounding him and Miami will intensify immensely.
Tagovailoa passed for 3,377 yards on 66 percent completions for 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the Terrapins in 2023. Tualia, unlike Poffenbarger and Salter, has regularly faced strong opposition in the Big 10.
