Despite the fact that the Atlanta Falcons are still in contention for the NFC South crown, many fans want a change. Arthur Smith, who is currently in his third season in Atlanta, has recently garnered the ire of many.
Smith may have outstayed his welcome in Atlanta, given his unwillingness to deploy important skill players such as running back Bijan Robinson and tight end Kyle Pitts and the Falcons’ third consecutive losing record. While it’s unclear whether the Falcons will release Smith, and some stories have suggested the reverse, they are at least conducting due diligence.
According to NFL source Cam Marino, Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is on the Falcons’ radar if a coaching vacancy arises.
Bieniemy, 54, is in his debut season with the Commanders but is best remembered for his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. Bieniemy’s offense never finished worse than sixth in yards or points in five years under Andy Reid.
During that period, he also assisted Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and others in winning two Super Bowls. Bieniemy was generally regarded as a potential head coaching contender for many years but was never given the opportunity. Instead, he made a lateral move to Washington to prove that he is more than the players he coached in Kansas City. Falcons Fire Smith ‘If Late-Season Collapse’ Still Measuring Stick? This isn’t the first time Bieniemy’s name has been mentioned by the Falcons, who reportedly interviewed him in 2021 before hiring Smith. If the Falcons elect to fire Smith, Bieniemy will undoubtedly be a candidate to watch in their next coaching search.
