Deontae Lawson’s announcement that he will be returning to school for the 2024 season thrilled Alabama supporters. As the middle linebacker for the Crimson Tide, Lawson would be in his fourth season there.
In order to provide NFL teams with better footage, he must play a full season in good health. In 2023, Lawson recorded 67 total tackles, including three sacks and 5.5 for loss. In 11 games, he also had four quarterback hurries and four pass breakups. Next fall, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound player might be the Tide’s signal caller.
Next autumn, Jihaad Campbell—a former five-star in the 2022 class—will start his junior year.
Posting a picture of himself and Lawson on social media, he wrote, “Persevered through a lot of adversity… only up from here.” In response, Lawson said, “30 x 32,” indicating his desire to play defense as a tag team with Campbell at inside linebacker.
Shaun Dion Hamilton and Rashaan Evans were the last regarded inside linebacker tandem for Alabama football in 2017.
Does the Crimson Tide have a tandem for the upcoming season that might cause problems for opponents? Trezmen Marshall has declared for the 2018 NFL Draft, while Ian Jackson, a former four-star, has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
