After a few poor seasons, the Browns’ defense has historically been excellent under Schwartz. Cleveland leads the league in yards allowed per game with 266.6.
Schwartz could be considered for a head coaching position this offseason. And if he does, he’ll at least pay attention.
“I’d argue that in any work, you should always strive to be at the top of your field. “And I’m no exception,” Schwartz stated on Thursday, January 4.
Schwartz, on the other hand, has fully loved his stay in Cleveland. The Browns winning a postseason place in front of their home crowd was a particular moment for Schwartz, who has more than 30 years of NFL experience.
“I’m really happy here,” stated Schwartz. “I adore Cleveland as a city. That was a fantastic vibe. In the NFL for 31 years. That was one of the top five atmospheres I experienced that Thursday night. They provided us with a lot of energy. We needed to give them some energy in order to repay them. You don’t get many chances to clinch at home.”

“At the beginning of the year, coach Schwartz, he told us he’s going to demand a lot out of us this season and it was going to have to be one of our best seasons so far,” Ward told reporters on Thursday, January 4th. “And I believe we’ve risen to the occasion, that we’ve accepted the challenge, that we’ve done our part to carry it out, that we’ve gone out there and helped this team.” So far, I’ve enjoyed the pressure. It’s been great. I’ve been grateful for his team and everything he’s done for our organization.”
Schwartz’s unit has also dealt with a number of injuries over the season. Key players who have missed substantial time include safety Grant Delpit, defensive lineman Maurice Hurst, safety Rodney McLeod, and pass-rusher Ogbo Okoronkwo. Despite this, the Browns have been incredibly stingy against opposition attacks.
“I like our culture that way,” remarked Schwartz. “I don’t watch a lot of other teams, but you can see frustration come out of other teams at times.” You can see guys hurling helmets, guys in scrapes on the bench, coaches and players and players and coaches and coaches, and so on. Nothing like that has come from our team. If the offense turns the ball over, the defense does not point a finger or throw helmets at them. And if the defense allows a touchdown, those guys are encouraging.

Schwartz has been outspoken in his support for his head coach, Kevin Stefanski, who is a strong contender for Coach of the Year. Stefanski would be receiving the award for the second time. In his first season with the Browns, he was also voted Coach of the Year.
“I believe he is Coach of the Year.” I mean, that doesn’t even come close. “He’s just such a steadying influence on the team,” Schwartz said. “A head coach should be a steadying influence in a team, and I don’t think anybody exemplifies that better than Kevin.”
The Browns are 11-5 heading into the last week of the season. Key players on both sides of the ball, including quarterback Deshaun Watson and running back Nick Chubb, have been injured.
Schwartz and the Browns will finish the regular season against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Following that, the Browns will face the winner of the AFC South in the Wild Card round.
