The Indianapolis Colts’ backfield will be bolstered as important running back Zack Moss is anticipated to participate in Saturday night’s ‘do-or-die’ regular season finale versus the Houston Texans, after missing the previous two weeks due to a forearm injury:
Moss also intimated on social media that he’ll play on Saturday morning.
While standout starter Jonathan Taylor will undoubtedly take the majority of the rushing burden, Moss should see some key snaps as his primary backup.
Moss had 177 carries for 764 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns in 13 games (8 starts) in 2023, all of which were career highs.
During their 31-20 win over the Texans in Week 2, the Colts rushed for 126 yards on 23 attempts (5.5 yards per carry average) and three touchdowns. With Taylor out on PUP, Moss played a key part in the victory, gaining 88 yards on 18 attempts (4.9 yards per carry average) and scoring a running touchdown.
The Texans enter Saturday night’s contest as the NFL’s third top running defense (*tied), allowing only 88.5 total rushing yards per game.
Having the ‘1-2 punch’ of Taylor and Moss back for one of the few times this season could help the Colts better establish the run, which is required to free up passing lanes for interim starter Gardner Minshew—and also allow for some strategic shots downfield.
Zack, welcome back, and Go Colts!
