Few could have predicted how far quarterback Joe Flacco and the Cleveland Browns would have gone together when Flacco was added to the practice squad. Flacco was brought in a couple days prior to Thanksgiving to support PJ Walker and recently installed starter Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
Fast-forward to mid-December, when the Browns and Flacco reached an agreement on an active roster contract, and by late December, the team had secured a postseason berth.
The team had to make an intriguing $75K decision due to a portion of Flacco’s contract. Flacco received that amount each time the quarterback began and the team prevailed. The Browns are sitting veterans in Week 18 out of a desire to protect the veterans.
Flacco cannot, therefore, get the $75,000 incentive.
Ultimately, the $75K is not significant for the team or Flacco (who made over $150 million in the NFL). Players (on the Browns and pending free agents) will notice if a veteran is acknowledged and cared for, both monetarily and through relaxation.
