Bryce Underwood, a highly sought-after five-star quarterback and the top prospect in the 2025 class, verbally committed to LSU on Saturday. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Underwood made the announcement in the cafeteria of Belleville High (Mich.) after selecting LSU over Alabama and Michigan. He gave Georgia, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, and Florida serious consideration as well.
Underwood described LSU to 247Sports as having “amazing coaching staff, amazing coaching staff, and an amazing atmosphere.” “The show is steeped in history. Louisiana State University saw the ins and outs of many outstanding athletes. The cuisine is incredible. There are a lot of genuine people in the world. Many individuals are from Michigan. Many of the topics are relatable to us.” At Belleville, Underwood has won two state championships, but this season, as a junior, she was unable to secure a third straight victory. The school’s 38-game winning streak was snapped by the defeat. In 2023, Underwood was voted the Michigan State Player of the Year after throwing for 3,165 yards, 40 touchdowns, and two interceptions, in addition to adding seven rushing touchdowns.
The Heisman Trophy that Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels won this season was one factor that bolstered LSU’s recruiting pitch. Selecting a university that can support Underwood in pursuing his NFL dreams was another crucial decision. Then, as the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner for LSU and currently a standout quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, Joe Burrow fits the bill. “The development for me as a quarterback to prepare myself for the NFL is what mattered for me,” Underwood stated. “Also, having a relatable offense that I’m getting into is a big thing as well.”
