The Washington Commanders sacked Head Coach Ron Rivera this morning, but have yet to fire General Manager Martin Mayhew. Josh Harris has enlisted the help of former NBA executive Bob Myers and former NFL executive Rick Spielman to help him find a new coach and director of football operations. There have already been four names linked to Washington’s head coaching job (Jim Harbaugh, Raheem Morris, Ben Johnson, and Aaron Glenn), and now we have our second GM contender. Washington has already requested an interview with Bears general manager Ian Cunningham.
According to Jonathan Jones, Washington has also requested an interview with Cleveland Browns AGM and Vice President of Player Personnel Glenn Cook for the role of head of football operations that will be formed under Josh Harris. He began his NFL career as a pro scout for the Indianapolis Colts in 2011 before moving on to the Green Bay Packers from 2012 to 2015.
He obtained his first executive level job with the Cleveland Browns as Assistant Director of College Scouting, a position he held for four years. Cook was elevated to Vice President of Player Personnel in 2021, and subsequently to Assistant General Manager in 2022.
