Ron Roberts left Auburn after just one year to take a position at Florida; thus, Auburn will have to find a new defensive coordinator.
During his tenure at Auburn, Hugh Freeze will appoint a second defensive coordinator, and some early favorites have surfaced. Here are three that seem to make sense.
Chris Kiffin
Kiffin and Freeze have a strong past. He worked under Freeze at Ole Miss and was a very successful defensive coach, both on the field and in recruiting. He is the Houston Texans’ linebackers coach at the moment.
Indeed, he is the brother of Lane Kiffin.
Kelly Charles
Despite their having been no formal announcement, Kelly is reportedly already employed by Freeze and working on the initiative. To show off his recruiting prowess, Kelly might be chosen as a defensive coordinator or as a co-DC, but it would make more sense if he were named as the DC after serving as Colorado’s DC the previous season.
Zachary Arnett
When Freeze was seeking a DC a year ago, the former head coach of Mississippi State was mentioned. This time around, there’s also some buzz about his name. He would probably be one of the few names taken into consideration, according to Auburn Undercover.
