On Monday, the Miami Hurricanes added to their quarterback depth chart with the commitment of one of the finest signal callers in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
Reese Poffenbarger, a standout for the Albany Great Danes last season, revealed his commitment to the Hurricanes on his X account.
Poffenbarger topped the FCS in throwing touchdowns (36) and yards (3,603) in 2023. He will be eligible for another two years.
On December 20, he revealed that he was entering the college football transfer portal.
Poffenbarger, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 215 pounds, is a former Maryland player of the year who also attended Old Dominion before transferring to Albany.
After starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke left for Wisconsin last month, the Hurricanes have been looking for a quarterback through the transfer portal.
Prior to Poffenbarger’s pledge, Miami hosted former Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward and former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard on campus last month. Ward, on the other hand, declared for the NFL Draft on January 1st, and Howard verbally committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes last week.
Poffenbarger will fight for playing time with sophomore Jacurri Brown, who started in Miami’s Pinstripe Bowl defeat to Rutgers, and freshman Emory Williams, who started two games last year, including a double-overtime triumph over Clemson at Hard Rock Stadium.
