JUST IN: Miami Hurricanes Announce The Signing Of New QB From Maryland

It looks like the Miami Hurricanes have decided on a starting quarterback for the 2024 campaign.

With Tyler Van Dyke (who has since transferred to Wisconsin) leading the team after an uneventful 2023 season, the ‘Canes went big game hunting in the transfer portal.

However, it seemed as though Miami would be in trouble when former Washington State signal caller Cam Ward decided to pursue the NFL Draft instead of transferring for a sixth season of collegiate football.

The Hurricanes treated Ward and his family to supper at one of South Beach’s priciest fine dining establishments, spending a modest amount in the process. Even rapper Rick Ross was called in to lend a hand. He was to be paid handsomely, with a possibly seven-figure NIL package in place.
The ‘Canes and head coach Mario Cristobal were forced to search elsewhere as a result.

They eventually located their man on Monday.

Quarterback Reese Poffenbarger of Albany (FCS) committed to Miami.

In his redshirt sophomore season, the Maryland native led the FCS in passing yards (3,614) and touchdowns (36) and guided the Great Danes to the FCS playoff semifinals.

He was a walk-on at Old Dominion University when he started his career then transferred to Albany before the 2022 campaign.

Poffenbarger spoke to ESPN’s Pete Thamel about the transfer, saying, “Albany will forever have a place in my heart and we did a lot of special things.” “In the end, I felt it was time to move on and do what I could to position myself to contend for a national championship and possibly play in the NFL in the future.”

Why Miami? He assures Thamel that it was a simple choice.

Who, according to Poffenbarger, “has the roster and people in place to make a push to win every game that they play.” “There are so many players on Miami’s roster that are capable of playing in the NFL and producing elite-level performances. They have outstanding wide receiver and tailback talent in addition to a formidable defense.
Is he going to be better than Ward? Time will tell.

However, it’s preferable to the massive void the Canes were staring at before Poffenbarger made his commitment.
