BREAKING NEWS: Matt Ryan reveals who will be quarterback for the Falcons next year

It’s possible Matt Ryan’s playing days are over. You never really know, though, given what we’ve seen this season with Joe Flacco. Ryan, though, has moved quickly on to a second job after being kicked out of the league. Being a part of the CBS broadcast crew comes naturally to him. He was calling the Falcons-Saints season finale, which will go down in history as Arthur Smith’s funeral.

Smith was fired by Arthur Blank and company less than a day after the Falcons’ 48-17 loss to the Saints. They plan to reopen the hiring process in the hopes of improving performance and making the playoffs for the first time in seven years the following season. Making the postseason a reality could be greatly aided by the next head coach the Falcons select, but unless they acquire a franchise quarterback, nothing will change.

It’s unclear which way they go in that regard. There are a number of blue chip possibilities in the draft, but the Falcons may need to move up to choose one. If the Bears choose a quarterback with the first overall pick, Russell Wilson, Baker Mayfield, and Kirk Cousins are just a few of the experienced players that the Falcons might be interested in trading for Justin Fields.

It is not possible for Mayfield, Cousins, or Wilson to elevate the Falcons to a higher level. They would merely be band-aid solutions for a larger problem. In the opinion of the greatest quarterback in Atlanta Falcons history, the team should take a younger approach.

Matt Ryan responded, “I think it’s probably young, whether that’s trading for a young player or finding somebody in the draft,” when asked about the Falcons’ plans for the quarterback situation this offseason. “I believe they are headed toward becoming a young player.”
In my opinion, there are just three reliable picks in the draft: Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Caleb Williams. Regretfully, in the first three picks, they might all be off the board. There are a few more interesting choices after those three, including Michael Penix Jr., JJ McCarthy, and Bo Nix. They will probably not be prepared to begin for at least a year or two, though, as they are all flawed.

When discussing younger quarterbacks, Justin Fields is the alternative. If the Falcons don’t want to pay the premium to move up the board, they should aggressively pursue Fields since he’s the most natural fit if they don’t select one of the top three quarterbacks in the draft.
