Jeff Driskel became the Cleveland Browns’ fifth starting quarterback this season.
Signed from the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad, there was speculation that this was just a tryout.
P.J. Walker is still on the active roster and has already appeared in a few key games for the Browns.
All week, it was unclear which of the two backup quarterbacks would be the official QB2.
Today, Andrew Siciliano of the NFL Network relayed news from offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
Van Pelt named Driskel the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
Fans who believe Walker is the superior pick were taken aback by the decision.
Driskel got off to a bad start against the Cincinnati Bengals, throwing an interception on his third snap.
He scrambled for two first downs on his final drive before halftime, the only one that lasted more than four plays.
Driskel also utilized his legs to aid sustain some drives.
Cleveland’s fifth quarterback has marginally superior career numbers than Walker.
But, more importantly, Walker has a 5-4 career win-loss record, whereas Driskel is 1-10.
Driskel hasn’t won an NFL start since his debut season in 2018.
Neither quarterback has big aspirations for the backup position.
Browns supporters hope Joe Flacco is the lone quarterback on the field during the playoffs.
