BREAKING NEWS: Miami already has a quarterback committed in the Class of 2025

Being led by a big-time player can make all the difference between a good squad and a great one. This previous season demonstrated how some crucial losses were greatly impacted by a run of subpar quarterback play.

The Hurricanes must keep up their efforts to improve the caliber of play in the room. Luke Nickel of Alpharetta, Georgia, Milton, who had a standout junior season and was named the Georgia 7A Player of the Year while leading his team to a state title in the Peach State’s top classification, is already a 2025 signal-caller signed by Miami.

Reese Poffenbarger, a quarterback transfer from Albany, made a pledge to the Miami Hurricanes football program earlier this week.

ran for 310 yards and eight touchdowns while throwing for 6,613 yards with 60 touchdowns and 17 interceptions during his two years at the FCS level.

In 2024, Poffenbarger will come to Miami prepared to fight for a starting position. Jacurri Brown, a redshirt sophomore, Emory Williams, a sophomore, and incoming freshman Judd Anderson make up UM’s quarterback room right now.

These are the few FCS quarterbacks who have succeeded in making the transition in the last two years.

• From Colorado to Jackson State in 2023, Shedeur Sanders Sanders, who stands 6-feet-2 and weighs 215 pounds, moved from the FCS level to the Power Five with ease. Sanders ran for 156 yards and nine touchdowns in his two seasons at Jackson State, in addition to throwing for 6,963 yards with 70 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. In Colorado’s 11 games in 2023, Sanders ran for four touchdowns and completed 3,230 yards of passing with 27 touchdowns and three interceptions. Sanders is headed toward an NFL Draft selection in the future.

• Incarnate Word to Washington State, 2022 Cam Ward: In 2022, Ward transferred from Incarnate Word to Washington State, weighing in at 223 pounds and standing 6-foot-2. At IWU, Ward ran for 63 yards and three touchdowns, in addition to throwing for 6,908 yards with 71 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. In 2022 and 2023, Ward had a successful season at Washington State. He ran for 202 yards and 13 touchdowns and threw for 6,966 yards and 48 touchdowns with 17 interceptions.
