The NBA penalized Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic $25,000 US for his open criticism of the referees.
Following Toronto’s 132-131 loss to the Lakers in Los Angeles on Sunday, Rajakovic was disciplined for his long tirade.
He was upset that in the fourth quarter, officials awarded the Lakers 23 free throws while only giving the Raptors two.
Rajakovic declared that the difference in calls was “outrageous” and that the NBA and the referees have to take responsibility for the incident.
Los Angeles center Anthony Davis scored 20 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter and went 11 for 11 at the free throw line in the last quarter. Davis made 14 of the Lakers’ 36 free throws during the game, while the entire Toronto roster made just 13. Toronto lost starting center Jakob Poeltl to an ankle sprain prior to the game, leaving them shorthanded in the paint.
