The Auburn Tigers have added a huge offensive tackle from the Mississippi State Bulldogs via the transfer portal.
Auburn revealed on social media Thursday night that they had signed Mississippi State transfer offensive tackle Percy Lewis.
The Tigers’ newest recruit stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 345 pounds. Lewis attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College prior to his two seasons with the Bulldogs. He was the nation’s No. 2 junior college prospect and Mississippi’s top JUCO player.
Lewis started the final seven games of MSU’s 2023 season. Lewis reportedly played 437 total snaps for Mississippi State last season, finishing with a pass-blocking grade of 73.1 on 235 pass-blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. He just allowed one sack.
Lewis, according to 247Sports, was aware that Auburn needed help at left tackle. Following different departures and graduations, a lot of underclassmen are being called upon to step up. Fortunately, the seasoned tackle chose the Tigers.
“(Thornton) was telling me that he’s got a freshman under me,” Lewis told me. “He needs someone who has already played SEC ball to come in.” When it comes to SEC basketball, you must be mentally prepared. If you don’t do what you’re supposed to do, they’ll come in and knock your head off.”
Auburn has elected to hunt for offensive tackles through the transfer portal, with Lewis filling Dillon Wade’s prior position at left tackle. Wade is likely to switch to offensive guard.
Georgia State wide receiver Roberts Lewis, Kansas defensive lineman Gage Keys, Duke linebacker Dorian Mausi, California wide receiver Sam Jackson V, Maryland tight end Rico Walker, and Texas defensive lineman Trill Carter have all transferred to the Tigers.
Percy Lewis will be eligible for two more seasons.
