The Crimson Tide players were able to access the site and consider their alternatives after Alabama’s coaching change. The Georgia Bulldogs benefited from this trade on Friday night by landing a former Crimson Tide defensive back.
Jake Pope, a former safety for Alabama, has committed to Georgia. The 192-pound, 6-foot-1 defensive back still has three years left to be eligible.
Using a picture of himself sporting a Georgia jersey, Pope tweeted, “Comin’ home!!! Committed,” to announce his decision.
Pope participated in eleven Alabama games in 2023. He was largely a special teams player, but he also saw action on defense against Chattanooga and Kentucky. He did not keep track of any figures.
Pope did not participate in 2022 as a true freshman.
Pope was a four-star prospect in the 2022 class and a standout student at Buford High School. According to 247Sports, he was rated as the No. 28 safety and the No. 30 prospect in the state of Georgia.
In addition to being a highly-regarded baseball prospect, Pope was a varsity football player for the Wolves who helped the team capture multiple state titles. North Carolina, Notre Dame, Georgia, and Alabama were his top choices.
In August 2021, Cooper Petagna, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, offered the following assessment of Pope:
