Miami football is preparing for the 2024 season and has recently added a player at a position of need, safety Isaiah Taylor, via the transfer portal. Taylor announced his transfer to Miami on Thursday via social media. He played three seasons for the Wildcats, starting three games.
He is the son of Jason Taylor, an NFL Hall of Fame defensive end. The eldest Taylor is best known for his time with the Miami Dolphins, and he currently serves as the defensive ends coach for Miami football, a post he took last year.
Jason Taylor will be on the same team as his kid for the second time. He was Isaiah’s defensive line coach and subsequently defensive coordinator at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida. Taylor’s senior year, the squad won the state championship.
Taylor appeared in 24 games for Arizona in all. Against Arizona State, he had 56 total tackles, three pass deflections, and an interception.
Taylor’s coaching helped Miami football have one of the fiercest defenses all season. The Hurricanes finished 24th in total defense and went 5-1 while holding opponents to 20 or fewer points.
The commitment of Isaiah Taylor is crucial for Miami, who recently lost two safety in James Williams and Kamren Kinchens. Taylor will have the opportunity to fight for a starting job and assist the Hurricanes’ secondary in staying in shape.
Though he will not be personally coached by his father, it is exciting to see Isaiah and Jason Taylor on the same squad. It remains to be seen if the younger Taylor will follow in his father’s NFL footsteps, but for the time being, he can enjoy the college experience with his family by his side.
