The Philadelphia Phillies last won the World Series in 2008, when they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in five games. They’ve made it to the Fall Classic twice since then, falling to the New York Yankees in 2009 and the Houston Astros in 2022.
With the signings of Bryce Harper and Trea Turner on long-term deals, fans believe that their next crack at the summit is growing closer.
But MLB is taking a jab at the Phillies, revealing when they believe the next championship will be won in the City of Brotherly Love.
MLB predicts that the next Phillies championship will be in 2030.
On Thursday, the MLB shared a visual on its social media accounts depicting their predictions for the next ten World Series matches. They have the Philadelphia Phillies representing the National League and defeating the Detroit Tigers in the 2030 Fall Classic.
2030 is a lot further away than Phillies supporters expected or desired. After reaching the World Series in 2022 and falling just one win short in 2023, fans may believe that their moment is now rather than 6 years away. If Harper and the lads needed some incentive going into 2024 with a bad taste in their mouths, the league’s social staff provided them with some free bulletin board stuff.
The Phillies will face a dominant Atlanta Braves squad, a rebuilding Miami Marlins team, and an expensive New York Mets team all vying for an NL East title in 2024 at the very least. If they want to prove this image wrong, they’ll have to struggle through their division rivals and other NL superpowers.
