Matthew Stafford isn’t the only quarterback set for a tearful reunion in Sunday’s Wild Card game between the Rams and the Lions at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff is facing his former team for the first time since being traded to Detroit in exchange for Stafford in 2021. It’s Goff’s first game against the Rams, as well as the Lions’ first home playoff game in 30 years.
Before the Rams-Lions game, Donald was asked about Goff. On Thursday, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year informed reporters that he had reached out to Goff to express his admiration for him.
Donald and Goff were teammates on the Rams for five seasons, including a Super Bowl victory in 2018.
Some fans, however, believe Donald is only playing mind games to soften up Goff ahead of Wild Card Weekend.
Despite the two Pro Bowlers’ deep connection, there will be no love lost on the field.
The Lions were defeated 28-17 by the Rams the last time the two teams met in October 2021. The loss against the eventual Super Bowl champions dropped the Lions to 0-7 on the season.
The Rams and Lions meet again on Sunday in quite different circumstances.
