Former Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward has decided to bypass the 2024 NFL Draft and instead move to the University of Miami!
Despite earlier stating that he would enter the NFL Draft, Mario Cristobal and the Canes staff chased Ward tirelessly. Knowing there was a gap at the top of the roster, the exceptional recruiting coach used all of Ward’s skills and abilities, which resulted in Ward’s pledge today.
Ward, who stands 6’2″ and weighs 223 pounds, was undoubtedly the top QB in the transfer portal this cycle. Miami made Ward the emphasis of their recruiting at the position when former starter Tyler Van Dyke left (it was evident he needed to leave) for Wisconsin. While Miami did sign Reese Poffenbarger of Albany, the FCS’s leading passer, last week, they never stopped recruiting Ward. Their perseverance has paid off, as Miami now has an outstanding CFB quarterback to lead them into the 2024 season.
Mario Cristobal and crew have scored a big, seismic recruiting victory. A legitimate NFL Draft prospect is coming to Coral Gables to improve the roster’s talent and performance on the field at the sport’s most vital position. I can’t tell you how significant this is.
That’s all there is to it. Cam Ward, starting quarterback for the Miami Hurricanes. With Ward on board, Miami now has an undisputed starting quarterback for the 2024 season. Ward, who is from Texas, has put up impressive numbers in past stops at Incarnate Word and Washington State. Ward threw for 6.968 yards on 65.5% completions with 48 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in two years at Wazzu, while also adding 13 rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown on a trick play.
