BREAKING NEWS: Falcons Insider believes club has mind set on appointing former NFC head Coach along his GM to replace Rich McKay

If Arthur Blank hires Bill Belichick, Falcons fans may finally get their wish for Rich McKay to be relieved of his duties in the club.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, a team insider believes that “Belichick would take the job only if McKay is completely frozen out of football operations.”

Rich McKay is the one consistency in the Falcons’ previous failures (apart from Arthur Blank). McKay has been the one consistent theme in Atlanta, whether it’s Arthur Smith, Dan Quinn, or Mike Smith.

McKay is unharmed in all of this. Arthur Smith got the chop, and Terry Fontenot deserves some of the blame, but the fact that McKay isn’t even named and is once again sitting on the King’s throne is unnerving. Most Falcons fans understand McKay’s role in all of this, but the fact that Florio is the only national pundit to point it out is ludicrous.

Florio noted, “McKay is unlikely to support it (hiring Belichick).” According to the source, Belichick and McKay have previously disagreed over rule revisions due to McKay’s status as chair of the Competition Committee.”

Rich McKay was thought to be uninvolved in day-to-day operations before the Falcons recruited Arthur Smith. McKay was intimately involved in day-to-day operations, according to a news conference held following Smith’s departure.

The organization’s structure is a mess, and Bill Belichick is unlikely to be the only head coach candidate with high expectations when he arrives in Atlanta. Florio points out that Arthur Blank faces a difficult decision.

“Blank would have to decide whether he’s willing to do that to get the man who wiped out a 28-3 deficit in Super Bowl LI, propelling the Patriots past Blank’s Falcons.”

Rich McKay is the Lord of the Rings’ Grima Wormtongue. I beg you to Google it up and chuckle if you don’t get the reference. The Falcons would be better off without him, but I don’t think Blank is making the best move for the team.
