KY LOUISVILLE (AP) With 10 players scoring, including reserve Jayda Curry and Olivia Cochran with 12 points apiece, the 15th-ranked Cardinals defeated Wake Forest 83-62 on Sunday. Sydney Taylor led Louisville with eleven points, while Nyla Harris, Kiki Jefferson, and reserve Merissa Russell each chipped in with ten. Louisville shot 31 for 56 (55.4%), including seven for eleven (63.6%) from beyond the arc and fourteen for twenty (70%) from the foul line. With 11 points apiece, Elise Williams and Raegyn Conley led the Demon Deacons.
The only undefeated team in the Atlantic Coast Conference is the Cardinals (15-2, 4-0). Louisville is 9-0 at home this season, which is amazing. With 2:46 left in the first quarter, Curry scored a jump shot to give Louisville an 18-10 lead. Kate Deeble’s 3-pointer with seconds remaining in the quarter helped the Demon Deacons go on a 9-2 run to conclude the quarter and cut Wake Forest’s deficit to 20-19. The Cardinals steadily gained momentum as they tightened up their defence and made Wake Forest’s shot attempts harder. In the second quarter, Louisville outscored Wake Forest 26–8, as the Demon Deacons shot just 3-for-11 and missed their four 3-point tries.
In contrast, the Cardinals led 46-27 at the half after shooting 9 for 16, including 3 for 5 from 3-point range and 5 for 6 at the foul line. Louisville led by a small margin at the end of the third quarter, and they were up 25 points when Curry stole Kaia Harrison as she was being double-teamed close to half court. Curry dribbled, sped up, and banked the ball in as time ran out to give his team a 66-41 lead. On Thursday, Wake Forest (4-13, 0-5) will visit Boston College. On Thursday, Louisville will travel to Clemson.
