In 2024, Mike Tomlin intends to rejoin the Pittsburgh Steelers as head coach.
It was reported on Tuesday by Mike Garafolo of nfl.com that Tomlin has communicated his intention to return for the 2024 season to both the Steelers and his players. For his 18th season, Tomlin, the NFL coach with the longest tenure, will be back.
Less than a day has passed since Tomlin left a press conference when asked about his contract. Although Tomlin’s current deal is set to expire in one year, the Steelers are keen to sign him to an extension.
Following a 31-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills in a Wild Card playoff game on Monday night, Tomlin and the Steelers’ season came to an end. With a 10-7 regular season record, the Steelers were the 17th team under head coach Mike Tomlin to complete without losing.
The Steelers have not won a postseason game since defeating Kansas City 18–16 in a divisional meeting in 2016. They have lost their last four playoff games. They defeated the Arizona Cardinals 27–23 to win Super Bowl 43, but they haven’t made it to the big game since the 2010 campaign.
The team’s three-game losing streak fueled more rumours over Tomlin’s health. But the Steelers prevailed in their last three games and received assistance to guarantee a postseason trip.
