The Pittsburgh Steelers have been coached by Mike Tomlin for 17 seasons. It doesn’t seem like his long career is coming to an end just yet.
There were some whispers near the close of the Steelers’ 2023 season that Tomlin would retire following the campaign. The reports suggested that Tomlin would consider the choice carefully, at the very least.
However, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that Tomlin told the Steelers players on Tuesday that he intends to take over as head coach in 2024. The study by Garafolo also deemed the rumours over Tomlin’s future to be “unfounded.”
Tomlin’s three-year contract extension, which he signed back in 2021, is expiring in only one year. With the departure of Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll from their 2023 teams, head coach Mike Tomlin is currently the NFL’s head coach with the longest tenure.
Following his Steelers’ playoff elimination on Monday, a reporter attempted to interview Tomlin about his future plans. Before she could ask her question, the Steelers coach left the podium (see the video here).
Maybe it was just Tomlin’s subtly conveying to everyone to quit bothering him with the “unfounded” rumours about his impending departure.
