Trade rumours involving Pascal Siakam are intensifying, but negotiations with the Toronto Raptors are still difficult.
According to Matt Moore on the Locked On NBA Podcast, the two-time All-Star forward is apparently telling teams that he won’t sign with anyone who trades for him again.
“With the Pacers, Hawks, Kings, Warriors, or any other team that trades for him, he will not offer any verbal commitment at all, much less an extension. Moore stated, “He wants to experiment with free agency.
In the absence of a commitment, albeit an unlawful one in terms of the NBA CBA, it is difficult to envision Toronto receiving a player of Siakam’s calibre in a trade. If Siakam is only a rental player who could leave in free agency this summer, interested teams are hesitant to part with their most sought-after assets.
Siakam would only be qualified for a two-year, $84 million contract extension with his new team prior to free agency if he were transferred. Siakam doesn’t seem interested in a longer extension, based on all the signs.
Until he becomes a free agent this summer, Siakam is still qualified for a four-year, $192 million extension with Toronto. Up until now, the Raptors have been hesitant to speak with Siakam about a contract extension.
Having said that, I’ve heard that the deals are getting better. According to the most recent information I have, the Pacers are back and playing quite well. In light of this, I believe it’s probably a ruse to try to increase Siakam’s contract with a team that hasn’t been disclosed, and I would strongly suggest Golden State,” Moore continued.
Among the teams most interested are the Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons.
