NBA insider Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer claims that even in the absence of a guarantee that star Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors would re-sign with them, the Sacramento Kings would still make a trade for him.
This summer, Siakam will become an unrestricted free agent, and he has no intention of signing a new contract with any team that acquires him through trade.
The Kings are attempting to trade Kevin Huerter and Harrison Barnes. The Kings are currently in fifth place in the Western Conference rankings.
“According to O’Connor, the Kings would still make a trade for Siakam even if they weren’t sure he would resign, but his lack of dedication changes the assets they would be willing to give up along with Harrison Barnes and Kevin Huerter.” The likelihood is that a team more certain that Siakam will stay in the league after this season will outbid the Kings. Sacramento wants to improve its chances of making a long playoff run this year by turning Barnes, Huerter, and Davion Mitchell into players, whether it’s Siakam or someone else.
NBA source Sam Amick of The Athletic claims that Siakam is opposed to being traded to the Kings. Sacramento doesn’t seem like a suitable long-term match for the NBA champion.
Siakam is shooting 52.2% from the field, 31.7% from three, and 75.8% from the free-throw line this season while averaging 22.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks. His salary is $37.9 million.
Siakam is interested in joining the Kings, Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, and Dallas Mavericks. He was awarded the 2018–19 Most Improved Player of the Year Award. With a career average of 17.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks, the 29-year-old swingman has achieved success.
The deadline for NBA trades is February 8. The whole basketball community is watching Siakam’s situation closely.
