BREAKING NEWS: Falcon Insider reveals Falcons potential backup plan to Bill Belichick

All of the top contenders for head coach have either completed or requested interviews with the Falcons; these are the biggest names in the hiring pool.

Arthur Blank spoke with Jim Harbaugh and Bill Belichick face-to-face, but other people were contacted electronically. Though there are still a few possible prospects for the Falcons that require initial interviews, everything appears to be pointing in the same way.

Even before Arthur Smith was released of his duties, Belichick was linked to the Falcons, and the rumours only got stronger when he left the Patriots to take a position in Atlanta. Even still, it had only been speculation until the Falcons conducted an official interview with him, confirming the rumours.

It appears that Belichick is the most well-known brand on the market and Blank is a large game hunter. Dan Graziano of ESPN predicted that the Falcons will hire Belichick because where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
Blank might not have to fight with any other owners for Belichick’s services because he has only conducted interviews for Atlanta’s opening. But if a few positions become available, such as with the Cowboys or Eagles, Belichick might turn to the Falcons as a final choice.
In that scenario, Graziano thinks the Falcons should keep a watch on Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator for the Lions, who is acquainted with Terry Fontenot from their time together in New Orleans.

Glenn has not yet finished the interview despite being asked to do so. He has been a coach and player in the NFL for more than thirty years. Prior to moving to Detroit with Dan Campbell, he coached in New York for the Jets, Cleveland, and New Orleans during his playing career. He also worked with the Texans, Cowboys, Jaguars, and Saints.

The fact that he connects with players so well may be his best quality. In a recent NFLPA survey of 1,700 players to determine the league’s most popular coordinator, Glenn garnered more votes than any other coordinator.

Although there is no doubting his ability to lead men, he hasn’t yet elevated Detroit’s defence to a top-10 position; in fact, the defence may be viewed as the Lions’ weak point. Their allowed yards and points rank them 19th and 23rd respectively in the league.

It’s reasonable to say that Detroit’s defensive line is a work in progress. He would have access to All-Pro talent in Jessie Bates III, A.J. Terrell, and Grady Jarrett with the Falcons, in addition to some really talented defenders in David Onyemata and Kaden Elliss.

If the Falcons are using Aaron Glenn as a backup to Bill Belichick, they may perform even worse.
