Bruce Brown, a guard-forward hybrid for the Toronto Raptors, has experienced an extremely hectic 32 hours. During that time, he flew from Sacramento to Toronto, was traded away from the Indiana Pacers in the Pascal Siakam trade, and joined a new team without knowing any of his teammates.
In a close loss against the Chicago Bulls, Brown played 25 minutes with 15 points and 7 rebounds, despite not having rehearsed with the team or being familiar with any of the plays. Brown was able to secure a spot in the closing lineup with just experience, determination, and gut feelings.
As a Canadian player, Brown has been the subject of trade rumours because of his position on a Raptors team that the NBA believes is going to destroy everything, but he did a great job securing support from the fanbase during his first media appearance.
Brown did not waste any time in playing to his fans’ desires, calling new No. 1 scoring option Scottie Barnes a “superstar” and a “dog” in a very flattering manner. Brown is aware of the quality he is connecting with, regardless of whether he ends up staying or getting dealt.
In addition, Brown donned his classic No. 11, reclaiming the number from Jontay Porter, the recent two-way standout. Porter changed to No. 34 prior to the game; thus, Brown disclosed that he had to pay $10,000 to regain the number. Brown joked that before the changeover occurred, he would demand extra money.
