BREAKING NEWS: Falcons: Chargers reportedly closing in on deal with Jim Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the 2023 National Champion Falcons, is slated for a second interview. But, as was the case with the recently hired Brian Callahan, they might not even get an opportunity to perform it.

The Chargers and Jim Harbaugh are nearing an agreement for Harbaugh to become Los Angeles’ next head coach, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
On my wish list of possible Falcons head coach candidates, Jim Harbaugh was at the top. He shares Bill Belichick’s impressive résumé. After making Stanford a serious contender, Harbaugh twice came dangerously close to leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl before winning the National Championship at Michigan. He is also ten years younger than Belichick and has an offensive background that is known for getting the most out of his players on that side of the ball. That is an amazing record of success.

But Jim Harbaugh was, and always has been, maybe the most desirable prospect to become head coach. There was no shortage of suitors for him, and if he couldn’t find a landing place he liked, he could always go back to Michigan. It’s interesting to note that Jim Harbaugh only conducted interviews for the Chargers and Falcons out of all the jobs. Atlanta appeared to be a contender, but it looks like that hope is going to fade.

It will be interesting to see where it puts the Falcons going forward. Among all the contenders, Harbaugh appeared to have the greatest chance of persuading Arthur Blank to choose someone other than Bill Belichick. Now, Blank will probably need to follow the path of a new head coach if he is to do that.

Based on Blank’s past, it is not unexpected. Since 1997, the Falcons have not employed an experienced head coach. Having said that, there is a distinct feeling about this hiring cycle. Blank, who is eighty-one years old, wants to win now. It doesn’t seem like he wants to trust a rookie head coach once more, but he might not have an option.
