The Cleveland Browns brought in Joe Flacco as a backup quarterback because of injuries to the position. He was so good, however, that the team wants him back in 2024.
On Monday, Browns general manager Andrew Berry expressed his desire for Flacco to return in 2024 as the team’s backup quarterback. But in order for it to occur, he continued, the money would need to be correct.
Joe, according to Jake Trotter of ESPN, “played winning football for us,” stated Berry. “He performed admirably, stepping in and playing at a high calibre. The backup quarterback position is actually among the top 30 on the roster, in my opinion.
“[Flacco] is an excellent quarterback, but it truCly depends on the price and availability.”
It doesn’t seem realistic that Flacco will be handed a starter position somewhere, even after his performance this season. Rather than backing up Deshaun Watson, he might be able to fight for one, which would be more appealing to him. However, after the team’s season concluded, Flacco had nothing but praise for the Browns organization.
Flacco joined in November and, despite his recent 39th birthday, threw for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns in just five games. It appeared as though he was done a few months ago, but he obviously has a future in the game, whether or not it is with the Browns.
