JAN 23: COMMANDERS ‘SEND CONTINGENT’ TO DETROIT The Washington Commanders are continuing their coaching hunt and want to take a closer look at some of the league’s best coordinators. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Commanders will “send a contingent” to meet with Detroit Lions coaches Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn next week. Johnson and Glenn are preparing the Lions for Sunday’s NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers and will not be able to communicate with other teams until after the game.

JAN 22: RIVERA INTERVIEWS WITH EAGLES Former Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera may soon find a new job. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Rivera is interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles to be their defensive coordinator.
The Eagles fired Sean Desai on Sunday, leaving a vacancy. If the Eagles hire Rivera, he would return to Philadelphia. Rivera was the team’s linebackers coach from 1999 to 2003. Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz claimed that the Commanders interviewed offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Eric Bieniemy earlier this week. Schultz further stated that the interview involved general manager Adam Peters and owner Josh Harris, adding that Bieniemy “had an excellent and highly detailed approach.”
Following a strong start to the season, the Commanders’ offence suffered in the second half of the year, finishing 25th in points per game (19.4). In his debut season as Washington’s starting quarterback, Sam Howell passed for 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. Bieniemy was the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator and associate head coach from 2018 to 2022, when he played a key role in quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ success. Mahomes won two MVPs, and the Chiefs won two Super Bowls throughout that time.

JAN 18: COMMANDERS INTERVIEW MORRIS The Washington Commanders are expanding their interview pool for their head coaching position. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Commanders are interviewing Raheem Morris, the Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator. Morris, 47, served as defensive backs coach at Washington from 2012 to 2014. He previously served as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011. He also served as the Atlanta Falcons’ interim coach in 2020.
