On the recruiting front, new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer received some much-needed good news on Wednesday.
Ryan Williams, a five-star wide receiver who was once committed to Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide, declared on Wednesday that he was returning to Alabama.
After Saban announced his retirement, Williams became the first high-profile recruit to decommit from Alabama, where he had committed more than a year prior. After reopening his recruitment, he was highly linked to Texas A&M, but it appears that DeBoer was able to re-recruit him to Alabama.
Right now, 247 Sports has Williams as the third-best wide receiver in his class. The six-foot wide receiver attended Saraland, Alabama, high school.
Even though Alabama hired DeBoer to replace Saban, the news follows a flurry of high-profile transfers and decommitments following Saban’s retirement. What’s going on in Tuscaloosa has really benefited one school in particular. In order to appease supporters, DeBoer desperately needed a recruiting victory, and this should assist in that regard.
Alabama football is already experiencing the fallout from the departure of head coach Nick Saban. One of Saban’s top picks for the upcoming campaign does not intend to remain with the Crimson Tide.
ESPN reporter Tom VanHaaren reports that 5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams has withdrawn from the program. Williams still hadn’t signed a letter of intent, despite having been committed to Alabama for more than a year.
According to reports, Williams is in the running to attend Texas, Auburn, and Texas A&M. His visit to College Station is this coming weekend.
