The Detroit Tigers have signed Drew Anderson, a seasoned right-handed pitcher, to a minor league contract.
Anderson, who turns 30 in March, has spent the previous two seasons pitching in Japan. Prior to that, he appeared briefly in five major league seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, and Texas Rangers.
Anderson, a Nevada native, was picked in the 21st round out of high school by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2012. He made his major league debut in 2017.
Anderson was released by the Rangers following the 2021 season so that he could sign with Nippon Professional Baseball’s Hiroshima Carp.
Anderson spent two years overseas, pitching 4-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 45 innings for the top-tier Hiroshima team in 2023.
Anderson has been moved to Triple-A Toledo, where he will most likely offer bullpen depth.
