ESPN NEWS: Ex-NFL HC reveals Cowboys QB is set to terminate his contract with cowboys amid forcing his trade to Falcons

In the latest offseason reaction, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is being urged to request a trade to the Atlanta Falcons. Prescott is coming off the best season of his career, but he’s been ordered to leave Dallas for Atlanta.

On the January 24 edition of Get Up, former Indianapolis Colts head coach and ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday explained why Prescott should pursue a trade to the Falcons. Show presenter Mike Greenberg noted that “no one has ever had the leverage that Dak Prescott has” because of his contract, leading up Saturday’s Falcons proposition.

The Atlanta Falcons. “Go in there with the papers today,” Saturday instructed. “You have a lot of talent. Hopefully, Bill Belichick or someone else will take over as coach. They play well on defence, have weapons on offence, and you’re talking about a guy who can go in and command that level of energy.”

Prescott’s contract gives him final say on all deals, and he cannot be franchise tagged. Owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys handed him a hefty deal for a reason, but it could come back to haunt them.

Prescott Entering the Final Year of Contract

Prescott’s cap charge will increase to $59.5 million in 2024, up from $27 million in the first three years of his current contract. That’s a staggering figure, but one that appears unlikely to last.

This is due mostly to the Cowboys’ expressed desire in extending Prescott. A new contract extension would allow them to spread that money out, and it is completely guaranteed.

If the Cowboys do not extend Prescott this offseason, they will face a difficult situation. They’re already expected to be $11 million above the cap as things are. Not only will roster management be difficult, but Prescott will also be able to test free agency the following year.

The Cowboys have been nothing but enthusiastic about Dak this season. It helps that he rebounded from his worst season with possibly his best one ever. Whether or not that leads to an extension will be a key talking point this summer.

Aside from Saturday, there have been numerous other names telling Prescott to ask for a trade. Prescott’s brother, Tad, telling his brother to make a move may be the most intriguing.

Tad Prescott has had his fill of drama, as Heavy’s Jonathan Adams reported on January 20. He also understands Prescott would rather stay in Dallas than leave.

“Why do Cowboy fans continue to DM me?” “Trust me, if I could convince @dak to leave Dallas, I would,” Tad commented on X. “I, too, want him out of Dallas.” The city and organization have been wonderful to him and our family, but he is tired of the drama and the so-called fans, but he adores this club and wants to win rings.”

Dak Prescott has not yet responded to his brother’s point of view.
