SHOCKING NEWS: Washington Commanders make shocking QB selection

The Commanders now rank second overall in the NFL Draft. Following a dismal regular season, the franchise cleaned house, appointing a new general manager and sacking head coach Ron Rivera.

Adam Peters, a well-known figure in league circles, took the general manager position early this winter. Head coaching interviews are now underway, therefore an answer should be available shortly.
The Commanders must address one of the most vital positions in the NFL this offseason, with starting quarterback Sam Howell, a 2022 fifth-round pick, benched toward the end of the regular season.

2023 NFL Draft: Mel Kiper Jr. gives latest projection for No. 1 overall pick in 4.0 mock draft
Kiper projects Daniels to Washington Commanders.
Mel Kiper Jr., a long-time NFL Draft analyst for ESPN, revealed his newest mock draft on Monday. Unsurprisingly, Washington chose a quarterback with a lot of potential. However, the name surprised some enthusiasts.

Almost every NFL Draft quarterback ranking had USC’s Caleb Williams and North Carolina’s Drake Maye in the top two heading into the offseason. Scouts believe that both have the potential to be franchise cornerstones in the NFL.
But Jayden Daniels, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner from LSU, has entered the race. Daniels was the second overall pick in Kiper’s mock draft, coming after Williams but before Maye.

The 23-year-old signal-caller made a name for himself with an impressive 2023 season. Daniels has recently improved his draft value, topping Maye in Kiper’s most recent rankings.

Daniels brings an exceptional deep ball to the NFL, with Pro Football Focus rating the LSU product as an elite passer 20+ yards downfield.
Furthermore, Daniels shines as a runner when plays go apart. During his final tenure with the Tigers, he surpassed 1,000 yards on the ground.

Washington has enough of weapons for any rookie quarterback. Terry McLaurin, in particular, is a proven pass-catcher who has eclipsed 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons.

Since veteran Kirk Cousins left for Minnesota in the 2018 offseason, the Commanders have been without a consistent quarterback. If this mock draft is successful, Jayden Daniels will provide the roster with some steadiness.
