Drew Anderson, a seasoned right-hand pitcher, has agreed to a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers.
The past two seasons, Anderson—who turns thirty in March—have been pitching in Japan. Prior to that, he had a brief professional career with the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies.
Anderson, a native of Nevada, was selected by the Phillies in the twenty-first round of the 2012 high school draft. In 2017, he made his big-league debut.
After the 2021 season, Anderson was released by the Rangers to sign with the Nippon Professional Baseball team, the Hiroshima Carp.
After spending two years abroad, Anderson pitched for the elite Hiroshima club in 2023, going 4-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 45 innings.
Anderson will probably contribute depth out of the pen for Triple-A Toledo, where he has been sent.
