Whom Miami hires to replace Tim Harris Jr. will be drawn to the running back roster.
In 2024, three of the Hurricanes’ top four tailbacks from the previous campaign will be back. Last season, the trio of Ajay Allen, Mark Fletcher Jr., and Henry Parrish Jr. combined for 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns. TreVonte’ Citizen, a third-year freshman, Chris Johnson Jr., a redshirt freshman, and incoming true freshmen Jordan Lyle and Chris Wheatley-Humphrey are more intriguing prospects for Miami.
Will Miami’s future running backs coach, Mario Cristobal, be able to draw in a top candidate?
We spoke about a set of somewhat plausible choices. On my Locked On Canes podcast, Friday morning.If Miami chooses to promote from within, I wouldn’t be too shocked. Miami’s executive director of football Dennis Smith is a great recruiter and a former running back coach. He was the RB coach at McNeese State under current Miami DC Lance Guidry. “D Train” would have more recruitment power if he were given a role on the field. Mike Cassano, a former running backs coach, is currently employed by Miami as an offensive analyst. Under Randy Shannon, he oversaw Miami’s running backs in 2010.
-Telly Lockette, the coach of Marshall’s running backs, is an outside option worth considering. In 2021 and 2022, the South Florida native collaborated with Lance Guidry on the Thundering Herd crew. As the offensive coordinator at Miami Northwestern, his alma mater, and the head coach at Miami Central, Lockette enjoyed great success as a high school football coach in South Florida.
-Ja’Juan Seider’s name is on every blog in Miami. Seider would be a great addition to Miami IF they could get the running backs coach from Penn State. Still, I’m not sure why he would make a lateral move given how highly valued he is at the moment. In the near future, Seider might be considered as an OC candidate.
-A lot of Miami supporters have Cadillac Williams on their wish list. Following the 2023 season, the legend of Auburn departed from Hugh Freeze’s staff.
-When will this hire be made? It is typical for Mario Cristobal to take his time during coaching searches. I’m not sure how long he will take, but I’m sure he wants to have his guy locked down before spring football workouts start on March 4.
