BREAKING NEWS: Washington Commanders search for a head coach See Who they have Hired to take the Team to New Heights

The Washington Commanders continue to look for a head coach that can lead the squad to new heights. Washington ended 4-13 in 2023-24 following a good 8-8-1 in 2022-23. While the squad finished 8-8-1 in 2022-23, there were still numerous questions going into the season. Those were uncovered throughout the season, prompting Ron Rivera’s firing.

Bill Belichick, a 6-time Super Bowl champion head coach, is one of the Commanders’ potential hires. However, Jeff Howe of The Athletic believes the Commanders are a ‘long shot’ for Belichick.
Only two coaching jobs remain.

Bill Belichick, probably the best coach in NFL history, has only two head coaching gigs left. The Washington Commanders could decide to hire him at the last minute, but as Jeff Howe points out, this is unlikely.

Belichick began his career with the Baltimore Colts in 1975 and has since established himself as one of the world’s top coaches. As the New England Patriots’ dynasty comes to an end, it appears that his coaching career may follow suit.

The former Patriots head coach has the potential to eclipse Don Shula’s record for most NFL wins. Shula has 328 regular-season wins, while Belichick has 302. If he coached for a few more seasons, he’d most certainly have broken the record. New England did not give him much of a chance to complete that task with them, as they assembled one of the worst rosters in football, led by Mac Jones. Jones finished with only 2,120 yards and a 36.5 QBR, ranking 28th in football.

Belichick and the Washington Commanders do not appear to be compatible, but that might change.

“Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is viewed as a long shot for the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks coaching vacancies, league sources said, opening up the possibility the second-winningest coach in NFL history could be without a team in 2024.”

After the Atlanta Falcons selected Raheem Morris as their new head coach, Belichick made sense for the Commanders. Multiple sources indicated that Belichick would be the Falcons’ next head coach.

Howe said that hiring Belichick would need a change of direction for the Commanders or Seattle Seahawks.

“According to league sources, anything with the Commanders or Seahawks would require a change of course. The remaining six head-coaching vacancies this offseason have been filled.”

Ben Johnson Could Be the Commanders’ Next Head Coach.
Boomer Esiason, a former NFL player, announced that the Commanders will hire Ben Johnson as their next head coach. He stated the following on WFAN’s “Morning Show with Boomer & Gio.” Johnson is the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.

“He’s going to be the head coach of the Commanders, I told you that.”

Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo, and Tom Pelissero of NFLGameDay speculated that the Lions may be looking for an offensive and defensive coordinator, raising the chance of Johnson leaving for a head coaching position.

“It is very possible that the Detroit Lions go into next season, whenever this season ends, needing two new coordinators,” Rapoport said. Pelissero went on to say, “Also worth noting Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley could end up following Johnson wherever he goes as Johnson’s offensive coordinator.”
