To assemble a new staff in Tennessee, the Titans and their new head coach, Brian Callahan, are still at work today. The Titans have asked to interview Dolphins associate head coach and running backs coach Eric Studesville for the position of offensive coordinator, in addition to the one they scheduled yesterday, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
With what was first thought to be a below-average running backs room in 2023, Studesville did marvel. One of the most dynamic offences in the league all season was enhanced under Studesville by the league’s top rusher, Devon Achane, and league leader in rushing touchdowns, Raheem Mostert. Historically, Studesville is frequently held accountable for the accomplishments of athletes such as Tiki Barber in New York and Willis McGahee, Fred Jackson, and Marshawn Lynch in Buffalo.
In a lengthy coaching career, this would be Studesville’s first full-time position as offensive coordinator at 56 years old. Under former head coach Brian Flores, Studesville coordinated offensive plays with Miami’s tight ends coach, George Godsey, during the 2021 season. However, he has since returned to his current position for the last two seasons. Since making his coaching debut in the NFL in 1997, Studesville has had positions as head coach with the Bears, Giants, Bills, Broncos, and Dolphins. He frequently held dual roles as assistant special teams coach and coordinator of the running game.
From 2010 until 2015, Studesville and Callahan shared the same staff in Denver; however, Callahan only served as an offensive assistant during that time, while Studesville served as a position coach and, for a brief period, as interim head coach. Additionally, Studesville’s lack of play-calling expertise is lessened because Callahan intends to call plays for the Titans, something he did not do while serving as the offensive coordinator with the Bengals.
Nick Holz, the coordinator of the Jaguars’ passing game, is the only opponent he has faced thus far. Holz will be interviewed on Monday. Given their relationship, Studesville should have a good chance of landing the NFL’s first full-time offensive coordinator job.
