Charlotte, North Carolina OG Anunoby was forced to leave Monday’s game late due to an irritated right elbow that he had during the pregame warmups, according to the Knicks.
Prior to Monday’s game, the power forward, who has been a defensive revelation since his acquisition last month and is a major factor in New York’s six-game winning run, had been covering that shooting elbow with black kinesio tape.
Josh Hart and Precious Achiuwa were promoted to the starting lineup by the Knicks, while Anunoby and Julius Randle (dislocated right shoulder) were sidelined in Charlotte.
Donte DiVincenzo, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Jalen Brunson were the other regulars who started.
After being acquired from the Raptors, Anunoby had not missed a game in his 14 games with the Knicks, where he averaged 15.6 points on 52% shooting.
He has struggled with injuries throughout his career, and since his debut season in 2017–18, he has not participated in at least 70 games in a season.
Starting shooting guard DiVincenzo stated that the Knicks don’t need to give up on their style of play or physical identity in the absence of two essential elements.
“We don’t have elegant, soft-spoken males or anything like that. Everyone is a snotty guy, according to DiVincenzo. Attempts to strike the edge. Try to kick it out if they don’t have it, and if you’re open, shoot the ball. Therefore, I don’t think you really change who you are. I believe that the most important thing is that everyone must work together. Nobody should feel under pressure to take over for Julius and consume twenty-five and ten each night.
